Studies for Conjura were a series of meetings open to the public and free of charge with   reference professionals in dance, theater and performance and human sciences, with research and practices linked to discussions of Afro-diasporic aesthetics and politics .
Our proposal for "Studies" presupposes   an activation of the senses to build critical thoughts that allow us to interrogate the orders of things in a pulsating way.
Can studying the diaspora mean approaching the circulations of life? In these brutal times, we are called upon to strengthen the imaginations that lead us to forge new worlds.
In  7 meetings we discussed   the composition of black dancers, the politics of identity representation in the field of Afro-diaspora arts and the practices of naming dance practices; We studied the thinking of black women in Latin America based on ideas about anger and the radical nature of love; We discover  [ dancing ] the J-Sette performance and what can be complex and changing in counter-hegemonic corporeities; We imagine   unexpected black masculinities and the protagonist role of black populations in the formation of São Paulo.
Every day, a form of conjuration.

Theme: The Discovery of Anger and the Radicality of Love as a Method
May 18th

In this meeting, we embarked on the interiorities of black women's thought in Latin America, through the anti-racist and decolonial critique of two fundamental intellectuals in the production of contemporary thought, the Dominicans Yuderkys Espinosa and Ochy Curiel.   Based on the perspectives and notes of his works, we will reflect on anger and its messenger and educational role in the construction and political struggle, as well as addressing the centrality of love as a transforming and community-building method.

Petronio Domingues

Theme: Black protagonism in São Paulo: history and historiography
June 8

In this class, Petrônio Domingues will address the black experience in São Paulo in the post-abolitionist period, when the hierarchical relationships between masters and slaves ceased to exist. Reconstitute and examine black protagonism, from subjects (men and women), facts, scenarios, agencies, connections, social movements, racial policies, cultural flows and identity narratives, seeking to break the silence around this theme and giving visibility to historical experiences that deconstruct stereotypes, clichés and crystallized images. The assumption is that, in the historical formation of São Paulo, black people did not play a purely symbolic, or supporting, role. Rather, they assumed an agency role in the process of producing material wealth and in establishing the foundations of social, political, cultural and spiritual life.
